Ice Fishing Derby at Island Lake - Feb 16th to the 24th This popular event will continue in 2008 for one week only in the month of February, from the 16th - 24th. Participants are required to register in order to enter the contest for great prizes. Entry is $20 per person and all fish must be caught and registered at Island Lake Conservation Area during posted hours of operation. Prizes will be awarded on March 1, 2008. While the onset of winter sees the shut down of many conservation areas, Island Lake remains a hubbub of activity, as people converge to have an ice day!

Ice fishing remains one of the most popular winter pursuits. The season opens as soon as the lake has formed a minimum of 6 inches of ice, and remains open (conditions permitting) until March 23. During this season, we are open Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Weekends and Holidays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.


Hut Rentals

Hut Rentals are not available for the 2008 season due to low water levels. Open ice fishing is still permitted (ice conditions permitting).

CVC operates 22 propane-heated ice-fishing huts (2 six-man huts, 19 four-man huts, 1 one-man hut.) . The huts are constructed of wood to reduce wind-produced noise and to maximize comfort. Please note that there is a two person per hut minimum on weekends.

The huts contain an adjustable bench to allow anglers to get up close or sit back from the fishing hole. Windows in the door and end wall allow anglers to watch outside lines.

Hut rentals include bait (one dozen minnows for full or half day) and holes augured ( holes inside hut and outside).

The snack bar remains open and offers hot chocolate, coffee, soft drinks and assorted snack foods.
