Island Lake Conservation Area

CVC is conducting hiking surveys at ILCA. If interested, please email cvc@creditvalleycons.com or contact us at 1-800-668-5557 for details and an opportunity to participate.

Island Lake Angler Survey

Island Lake Conservation Area (ILCA), formerly known as Orangeville Reservoir, is located on the east side of Highwy 10 north of Highway 9 near the Town of Orangeville . Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) has been operating the reservoir to augment flow for the Orangeville Sewage Treatment Plant, but with the secondary benefit of providing a recreational resource. Home to largemouth bass, northern pike, black crappie, rock bass (all introduced to the reservoir), bullhead, sunfish and yellow perch, it has become a popular fishing destination in both the summer and winter months. For many years, largemouth bass have been promoted as a catch and release fishery, with a secondary management goal of maintaining northern pike at low numbers. More recently, voluntary harvest limits for panfish (e.g. yellow perch and black crappie) have been introduced.

CVC is committed to providing excellent angling opportunities at both ILCA and KWRMA , and as such, is looking to develop Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) for both properties. To that end, angler surveys have been developed for both the winter and summer fisheries. The purpose of these surveys is to assess angler satisfaction, issues, and future opportunities. Surveys are available at both locations and CVC staff have also been conducting personal interviews periodically.

Please download and fill in the survey most relevant to your last visit:

The surveys will be summarized and a draft plan developed over the summer. A public meeting seeking additional input is anticipated in the fall of 2006. Please check this web page in the future for additional details.

Ken Whillans Resource Management Area

KWRMA Angler Survey

Ken Whillans Resource Management Area is located on the west side of Highway 10 north of Olde Baseline Road , just northeast of Inglewood . Two fishing ponds provide angling opportunities for northern pike, largemouth bass and more recently, stocked rainbow trout. The Credit River also flows through the property, providing angling opportunities for naturalized brown trout.

CVC is committed to providing excellent angling opportunities at both ILCA and KWRMA, and as such, is looking to develop Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) for both properties. To that end, angler surveys have been developed for both the winter and summer fisheries. The purpose of these surveys is to assess angler satisfaction, issues, and future opportunities. Terra Cotta Conservation Area

Credit Valley Conservation has commenced the development of a Management Plan for the land complex entitled Terra Cotta and Silver Creek Conservation Areas . Our Management Plan will ensure that we can cater to both current and future needs to meet the the challenge of balancing the conservation of its natural environment with the pressures of increasing use.

For more information about this endeavour, please click here.

As the temperature drops ice will start to form on the lake. Please beware of these dangerous ice conditions - keep off!

Limehouse Conservation Area

In 2006, CVC commissioned George Robb Architect to stabilize the draw kiln at Limehouse Conservation Area. Stabilization work required removal of the most unstable top portions of the structure while "strapping" the remaining portion with airplane cable and lengths of 2X2 wood. This work will stabilize the structure in the immediate future while decisions about its long term conservation are made and the necessary funds are raised. Click here to view photos.

CVC also obtained archaeological assessments and documentation of the existing structure. The Limehouse Kiln Society and its partners will use the information in future conservation efforts.

For questions or comments regarding the draw kiln stabilization work please call Eric Baldin, Conservation Lands Planner, Credit Valley Conservation, (905.670.1615 x224)
