The Water Resources of the Credit River Watershed begins as water that falls as precipitation (snow and rain) that eventually makes its way via surface streams and groundwater to the Credit River . Working with the landscape, the movement of this water provides for various types of vegetation that provide habitat for many animals. Streams provide habitat for many aquatic organisms. Residents in the watershed use the water resources for drinking, swimming and canoeing. The Credit River contributes water to Lake Ontario .

The Water Resources Department is made up of a team of experts whose job it is to understand the water resources of the Credit River . We use this knowledge to protect this precious resource by participating in the landuse planning process. Permit to Take Water and Certificate of Approval applications, aggregate resources applications as well as CVC's permitting process. Our knowledge is gained through our monitoring programs, analysis that include surface water and groundwater computer modeling and sharing this information with other disciplines such as fisheries and terrestrial experts within the CVC. This helps us to gain an understanding of our watershed ecosystem. The expertise on the water team include water resources/water quality engineers, hydrogeologists, biologist, monitoring specialists, engineering technologists and water resources surface and groundwater technicians.

Our work serves to protect and enhances water quality and quantity in the watershed. This is very important to our residents as these actions help to protect our drinking water resources, help to protect the health of our residents (avoids environmental pollution) and saves future exorbitant costs for cleaning up our environment.
