Current Campaigns - Canoe the Credit

Canoe the Credit is a Credit Valley Conservation Foundation fundraiser in support of Credit Valley Conservation’s Conservation Youth Corps (CYC) Program.

We invite you to join us on Sunday, June 1st, 2008 as we Canoe the Credit in support of the Conservation Youth Corps Program of Credit Valley Conservation.

This non-competitive paddle offers three incredible routes down the Credit River and finishes with a post paddle party at the Mississauga Canoe Club, Port Credit.

Something for everyone. Three route choices.

The first, a 5 km route is suitable for beginner level paddlers and families. The second, an 18 km route, is offered for experienced paddlers. The third, a 25 km route is suitable for experienced paddlers looking for added challenge.

During the 18 and 25 km Canoe the Credit routes you will often get the sensation that you are on a remote northern river as you paddle down the Credit Valley, past lush trees and forests and towering cliffs the river has cut through sedimentray rock. You will also probably see blue herons, red-tailed hawks, and maybe even some trout.

The 18 and 25 km routes are mostly swifts, with a few Class I rapids and the occasional Class I technical rapid. Paddlers should be skilled at paddling in moving water, making turns around tight bends and around occasional obstacles in moving water. There will be one short portage around the Streetsville dam and possibly a second around an ice barrier depending on conditions.

Lots of prizes

All registered paddlers that collect the required minimum of $50.00 in pledges will receive an official Canoe the Credit t-shirt and CVC Foundation Enviro-pak. Fabulous prizes for the most pledges collected will be awarded to the top ten pledge collectors.

Bring your own boat

In the spirit of adventure, paddlers are responsible for providing their own boat, paddles and safety equipment. We recommend that each boat have two competent paddlers, with one experienced paddler. No more than three adults are permitted per boat.
