Rattray Marsh - A Living Discovery Centre for the Future
 |
Currently, CVC is committed to furthering the environmental learning opportunities available at Rattray Marsh Conservation Area and is working towards promoting the area as a Living Discovery Centre; a natural space for all to learn about local, regional and global environmental themes. The Conservation Area itself will form the contemporary and unique Living Discovery Centre which will provide a high quality experiential learning environment for residents, and visitors to explore the natural environments of the Conservation Area and learn about them through hands-on, interactive opportunities and experiences. The property will grow as a living classroom for children, general public, schools, educators, researchers, scientists and the regional environmental community. Improvements to trail and educational infrastructure and new initiatives throughout the property will provide all groups and individuals with opportunities to learn from the important environments of Rattray Marsh and the themes they represent.
CVC is working in 2006 and 2007 to improve the existing trail facilities throughout the property, increase the viewing opportunities, improve accessibility and generally improve access to all the learning potential the Marsh provides. The first phase will bring improvements to boardwalks, trail surfaces and signage allowing for safe and enjoyable experiences in the Conservation Area, where learning can come naturally. Implementing restoration efforts in conjunction with this educational development is integral to the ongoing successful management of this valuable resource for everyone. Located in a populated urban centre, human influence has impacted the health of the Marsh over the years and restoration works are intended to improve and enhance the Marsh’s environment.
CVC has been lucky enough to be supported in this initiative through the CVC Foundation receiving funds through the Pendle Fund at the Community Foundation of Mississauga. Through the support of our partners in Conservation, we are committed to the protection and appreciation of Rattray Marsh and the many opportunities it provides. We will be sure to keep everyone informed as this exciting project and opportunity moves forward.
