Annual Ice Fishing Derby makes its way to Island Lake Conservation Area

Island Lake 's Annual Ice Fishing Derby will be opening its doors again this year to both novice and experienced fishing enthusiasts alike.  This year's derby will run for one week only, from February 16 th to 24 th .  Come out for a chance to win some great prizes and show off your fishing skills.  Prizes will be awarded to those anglers who catch the longest Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, or Black Crappie.

Looking for some outdoor family fun? The derby runs through Family Day (February 18), and Ontario Family Fishing Weekend (February 23/24).  Want to learn more about the sport of ice fishing?  Check out a free ice fishing demonstration on February 23 rd from 10 a.m. - 3p.m. presented by Credit Valley Conservation's Aquatic Biologist, Jon Clayton.

Island Lake Conservation Area is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends/holidays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 673067 Hurontario Street in Orangeville, near the intersection of Highways 9 and 10/24. Daily fees are $4.25 for adults and $2.50 for both seniors (age 65 and over) and children (age 6 -12 yrs). Bait, tackle, rod rentals, hole auguring and snacks are all available onsite. There is a one-time-only registration fee for the derby of only $20.00.  Be sure to register early to be eligible for two draw prizes.

Non-anglers can enjoy ice skating or ice surfing (conditions permitting) on the natural surface of the lake, or cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on the park's 6 km's of marked groomed trails.
