Region of Halton, Region of Peel, City of Brampton, City of Mississauga,
Town of Caledon, Town of Erin, Town of Halton Hills, Town of
Mono, Town of Oakville, Town of Orangeville, Township of Amaranth
and Township of East Garafraxa.
CVC Generated (17%)
Through user fees for our facilities and services including naturalization
services, conservation area fees, regulation fees, plan review
fees, general development inquiry fees, donations and property
rentals.
Province (7%)
For flood and erosion control and for specific studies.
How Our Funds are
Spent
Watershed Management
and Health Monitoring (32%)
Services to develop the framework and management strategy in order
to provide natural systems protection, restoration and use including:
• maintaining and
updating an extensive database of information
on our watershed
• studying specific areas, such as subwatersheds, or features, such as groundwater
to improve our watershed knowledge and determine methods to improve
our management techniques.
• collecting and analyzing information to assess watershed health, to anticipate impacts
of future changes, to determine methods of maintaining and restoring a healthy
river, and to monitor the effectiveness of actions.
Watershed Stewardship
(10%)
Services to coordinate stewardship information and provide technical
advice and/or assistance to private, public and corporate landowners,
community groups and individual residents on sound environmental
practices that will enhance, restore or protect their properties.
The CVC undertakes this role in partnership with our municipalities,
provincial agencies, interest groups and academic institutions.
Conservation Lands Management
(25%)
Costs associated with the management of land and facilities either
owned or managed by CVC. These lands form an interconnected network
of natural areas and natural corridors that help protect the long-term
health of the watershed. They include features such as wetlands,
forests, valley corridors, the Niagara Escarpment and the Lake
Ontario waterfront.
Community & Education
Programming (14%)
This business unit include costs associated with program delivery
at Belfountain, Island Lake and Terra Cotta Conservation Areas.
Our programs are designed to offer sustainable natural heritage
appreciation and recreational benefits to our residents and visitors.
Our programs include events such as picnicking, swimming, group
camping, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and special events.
Environmental Advisory
Services (14%)
The costs associated with providing environmental review of land
use proposals submitted by municipalities, developers and the general
public. This includes official plan review, secondary plan review,
general planning studies, review of plans of subdivision and condos,
official plan amendments, land division review, site plans and
zoning bylaws and variances. Our objectives in providing these
services are to:
• ensure protection
of water quantity and quality and natural heritage.
• ensure protection of people from natural hazards like flooding and erosion.
• ensure the interests and rights of those downstream are not compromised.
Corporate Services (5%)
These services include management, corporate strategic planning
and non-program specific costs. These include both internal
support service costs and certain services provided directly
to external clients. This unit also covers costs associated
with community and public relations, and marketing and information
services. Administrative support services and motor pool costs
for the entire organization fall under this category.
